Two men have been charged with arson after a disposable barbecue was thrown into a woodland, causing a fire.
Aleksejs Sokolovs and Darius Lazausaks were both also charged with intent to damage property after the incident in Bawsey Country Park near King’s Lynn, Norfolk.
Emergency services were called to the area around 11.40am on Sunday but found the fire had been put out by members of the public.
The two men, who are both 45 and live in Boston, Lincolnshire, were detained at the scene by an off-duty police officer and taken to King’s Lynn police station for questioning.
Both men have been released on conditional bail and will appear before King’s Lynn Magistrates court on September 15.
The incident comes as several supermarkets have taken temporary barbecues off sale due to the fire risk they pose on parched turf.
Temperatures are still expected to be around 29 degrees in London on Monday, although there is a chance of rain to break the UK’s longest dry spell since 1976.
