NSW Police said officers from the Monaro Police District received reports of a drone flying in prohibited airspace above a correctional facility in Cooma.

Police then attended a nearby park on Barrack Street, where they spoke to two men aged 31 and 38. Officers conducted a search of the men and a nearby vehicle, where they allegedly located a drone box and controller, mobile phones and SIM cards.

In a nearby creek, they found and seized a drone with an attached package which allegedly contained tobacco, prohibited drugs, a mobile pone and other items, police said.

The items were seized for forensic examination.

The men were taken to Cooma police station where they were charged with operate remotely piloted aircraft within prohibited airspace, unlawfully deliver or attempt to deliver anything to an inmate and supply cannabis over indictable and less than commercial quantity.

They were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 on Saturday, September 2026.
