Two Brentford players were reportedly left bloodied after helping a man who was allegedly the victim of an assault in southwest London during the early hours of Sunday morning.
As reported by the Telegraph, it is understood the two players were returning home following Saturday’s Premier League match at Leeds when they saw a man being attacked in Richmond at around 2am.
The Brentford players helped to defuse the incident before police came to the scene.
Neither player suffered any injuries that required further treatment, with both described as completely healthy on Sunday, although witnesses said they were bloodied in the clash.
With Brentford’s match at Elland Road, which finished goalless, being the final match before the international break, it is understood the squad had been given permission to make their own travel arrangements home from Leeds.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police attended a report of an assault on Queen’s Road, Richmond, at around 02:00hrs on Sunday, 22 March.
“Officers engaged with the victim. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.”
The 0-0 draw leaves Brentford seventh in the Premier League entering the international break, only three points behind fifth-placed Liverpool and two points behind sixth-placed Chelsea in the race for the Champions League places.
