Two new murals have been completed at Gladstone Gardens in Barry. London artist and owner of Accent London, Grant Radford was selected by the Vale of Glamorgan Council to design and paint both murals at Gladstone Gardens.
During his design process, Grant spent the day facilitating a workshop on drawing flowers with the pupils of Gladstone Primary School. He shared a coffee with residents of Golau Caredig where he spoke with them about their memories of the Gardens.
Gladstone Gardens is a green space in the heart of Barry, named after William Gladstone the four-times Liberal Prime Minister. The gardens were used for the opening ceremony of the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1968, when it came to Barry. In 2011, the Proclamation Ceremony of the Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod 2012 was also held in the Gardens.

At Gladstone Gardens, the lower garden was once known as the 'blind park' as it had Braille signs with the names of the plants. Recently, new sports and play facilities were installed in the upper garden where the new mural is now adjacent.
Grant completed the murals at the end of May with his team of helpers, including a volunteer from the Memo Art Centre’s volunteer bank.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch says, “This is a wonderful addition to the beautiful gardens at Gladstone. We hope that the murals will bring the local communities together to enjoy and appreciate the art."
