Two Ayrshire seaside towns have been ranked as the worst coastal destinations in Scotland, according to visitors.
Thousands of Which? customers were surveyed about their visits to the coast last year and asked to rate their experience by the consumer champion.
Of the hundreds of UK destinations, Ayr ranked as Scotland's least favourite with Largs fairing slightly better in the survey.
Seaside locations were ranked by an overall score with hotel prices, beaches, seafront/pier, food and drink, and accommodation all taken into account.
Skegness in Lincolnshire ranked the worst in the UK with an overall score of 48 per cent while the tiny village of Bamburgh with just 400 residents was rated as the best with a score of 88 per cent.
Ayr is the lowest rated of the Scottish entries with 62 per cent. An average hotel price sits at £78. The beach got a decent rating of four out of five stars but the seafront/pier category was rated with two stars and food and drink earned three. A rating for accommodation was not given due to Which? not receiving enough responses.
North Ayrshire neighbour Largs got a 65 per cent rating from the survey. Hotel costs were pricier at £81 and the beach was lower with just three stars. The seafront/pier managed just two stars and food and drink bagged three. Again, a rating for accommodation was not given due to the low number of responses.
Other Scots destinations included Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire with 71 per cent; Oban in Argyll and Bute with 77 per cent; Tobermory on the Isle of Mull with 81 per cent; while St Andrew's in Fife was the top rated Scots coastal spot with 83 per cent and fifth overall in the UK.
Speaking about the results of the survey, the editor of Which? travel, Rory Boland, said: “Few countries can be home to such a diversity of brilliant seaside breaks as Britain. Whether you want world class beaches and utter wilderness or the bright lights and bucket and spade atmosphere of a resort, the UK has a seaside break made for you.
“What our survey shows is that it’s rarely the most famous destinations that visitors enjoy most. Try somewhere new this year and our survey shows you should find fewer crowds and better value."
