Two areas of Merseyside see fall in weekly positive Covid tests

Two areas of Merseyside have seen a reduction in weekly positive Covid tests.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, both Sefton and Wirral had fewer Covid infections than the week before. Sefton recorded 2,305 infections in the week ending March 28 - that's 290 fewer positive tests than the previous week.

Wirral recorded 3,115 infections in the week ending March 28 - that's 79 fewer positive tests than the previous week. This meant Sefton and Wirral's week-on-week percentage change figures fell by 11% and 3%, respectively

Meanwhile, the other four areas of the Liverpool CIty Region recorded rises in positive infections. Those rises were: 4% in Knowsley; 1% in Liverpool; 5% in Halton; and, 2% in St Helens. Warrington saw rises in positive Covid tests. Both West Lancs and Cheshire West and Chester recorded falls.

In England, there was a 3% fall in positive tests in the week ending March 28.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 3,544 cases in the week ending March 28, which is 46 more cases than the previous week. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 1%. The latest infection rate was 708.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 3,115 cases in the week ending March 28, which is 79 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 3%. The latest infection rate was 960.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 1,217 positive tests over the last week - that's 61 more cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 5% in Halton in the week ending March 28. The latest infection rate is 937.9 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 1,525 cases in the week ending March 28, which is 27 more cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in St Helens is 842.1 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 2%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 1,224 cases in the week ending March 28, which is 42 more cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 802.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 4%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 2,305 cases in the week ending March 28, which is a 290 fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate is 835.5 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases went down by 11% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 12,930 positive tests over in the week ending March 28, which is 193 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change decreased by 2%. The latest infection rate is 759.36 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 1,917 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 28, which is 18 more cases than the previous week. The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 1%. There was an infection rate of 915.49 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 3,360 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 28, which is 153 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate is 977.25 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage dropped by 4% in cases.

West Lancs

There were 883 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 28, which is 42 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate in West Lancs is 771.21 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage dropped by 5% in cases.

England

In the week ending March 28, England recorded 475,326 coronavirus cases, which is 13,318 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. There was a week-on-week percentage drop of 3% in cases in England, and there was an infection rate of 840.54 per 100,000 people.
