Twitter users are facing a shocking new cap on how many tweets they can read in a day, thanks to a controversial rule change by Elon Musk. The Twitter CEO announced on Saturday that unverified accounts can now only read a measly 1,000 posts per day before being blocked from checking out any more content.
Mr Musk said that the move is designed to combat ‘extreme data scraping and system manipulation’ on the platform. But the new Twitter rate limit could be a huge headache for users of the site–not to mention Twitter’s ad business.
Is there a Twitter rate limit exceeded fix?
Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to get around the new rules. The simplest way to view more tweets and get around Elon Musk’s Twitter rate limit is to sign up to a Twitter Blue subscription.
This is the Twitter CEO’s preferred option, as it comes with monthly fees attached of £9.60 for web users or £11 for mobile users. Paying for Twitter Blue will increase your Twitter rate limit by more than ten times, allowing you to see 10,000 posts. You’ll also get a ‘blue tick’ on your account and access to a range of other perks, including an ‘Edit Tweet’ button and prioritised posts.
But if you don’t want to fork out on something that costs more than a Netflix subscription, social media analysts at Followchain claim to have identified a few workarounds.
Firstly, you can try switching between your smartphone and different web browsers. If you’ve hit your rate limit on Twitter’s mobile app, try launching Safari, Chrome or another browser like Brave in ‘Private’ or ‘Incognito’ mode and loading up Twitter there.
If this doesn’t work, you can also use a VPN. This masks your identity online by funnelling all your Internet activity through an encrypted connection. It will not only keep you safer from online attacks and identity theft, but allow you access to streaming platforms like Netflix in different countries and, in this case, it could help you get around your personal Twitter rate limit.
There are several free VPNs such as Ultrasurf on Android or iPhone , or you can pay £4.39 per month for NordVPN . It’s not free, but it’s more than half the price of Twitter Blue and nets you a lot of other benefits.
Apart from that, Twitter users don’t have many other choices. The Twitter rate limit resets every 24-48 hours, so you could just use this time to take a break from social media for a day or two–or go and doomscroll TikTok instead.
