If you’re a fan of the New York Jets, there’s one thing you never want to say.
“It can’t get any worse.”
Because it always can.
The latest example of the 2023 Jets’ Drive to Futility occurred at the end of the first half of their Black Friday game against the Miami Dolphins. Quarterback Tim Boyle was just trying a half-hearted Hail Mary to see if the offense could put any points on the board.
Turns out, the offense could… but in the wrong direction. Miami safety Jevin Holland was one of about five defenders who had a shot at Boyle’s long duck, and he returned the thing 99 yards for a touchdown as time expired.

Holland got some nice cardio on the play, as well!
Jevon Holland returns a Jets Hail Mary attempt for a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Holland traveled 124.4 yards on the play, the most distance traveled by a ball carrier on a scrimmage play this season.

Miami’s head coach knew that this was ballgame. Oh, Jets.

As one might expect, Twitter had quite a bit to say about this.
Mike McDaniel to @KayleeHartung on Jevon Holland's interception:
"He knew what time it was and he made sure to finish the play, which was awesome."

Here's Jets QB Tim Boyle throwing a hail mary pick-six.

I can not believe what I just saw.
A 99-yard Hail Mary Pick Six.

If I was on the Jets defense I’d pull a Vontae Davis. All of them. 11 Vontaes.

Conventional wisdom says three things can happen when you throw the ball and two are bad, but I think the Jets are feverishly trying to discover a fourth thing (that will also be bad).

Normally I code Hail Marys special so the interceptions don’t get penalized because who cares, you’re just throwing it up in desperation.
I have no idea how to deal with that last play.
