Twitter is at its peak when everyone on your timeline is united in talking about a major event. Wednesday’s test of the Emergency Alert System was yet another example of how fun the social media website can still be.
If you weren’t aware, on Wednesday, FEMA and the FCC conducted a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. The test was sent to all cell phones, radios, and televisions and was scheduled for around 2:20 p.m. ET. Pretty simple stuff, all things considered, with the only annoyance the public had to deal with was the obnoxiously loud beep emanating from their phones.
Unfortunately, while we were all prepared for the 2:20 p.m. beep, the test actually came down about two minutes earlier, startling everyone across the country. In the aftermath of the test, people flocked to Twitter to crack jokes about the incredibly premature beep.
