'Twitter-brained': Megyn Kelly slammed online for sarcastic take on ICE shooting of Alex Pretti

Conservative pundit Megyn Kelly has once again found herself in the midst of a social media storm. The 55-year-old political commentator made a sarcastic remark on the fatal shooting of another Minneapolis resident, Alex Jeffrey Pretti on her X account, leading to much uproar.

On Saturday, Pretti, a 37-year-old ICE nurse, was shot dead by ICE officers who pinned him to the ground as per the videos of the incident circulating online. He allegedly “approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun,” as per DHS, while video evidence does not show him brandishing it at the officers.

Responding to Minnesota governor Tim Walz's demand for ICE to leave the state following the incident, Kelly posted a sarcastic remark on X. ".@realDonaldTrump should pull ICE out of MN today & announce that there will be no more immigration enforcement in MN at all." she wrote. "All illegals in the US are encouraged to move there. And if any illegal is found outside of MN & gets deported, they can never apply for re-entry."

"Moreover, every single asylum seeker in the USA should be told no applications will be considered unless the person is living in Minneapolis/St Paul," she added in the comments.

Megyn Kelly faces social media backlash

Kelly's inconsiderate remark over the fatal shooting and sarcastic take on ICE brutalities in the city, enraged numerous netizens who took to the comments to call out the commentator.

"How does that help anything? Maybe your take should be something along the lines of ICE officers need to stop breaking the law, assaulting, kidnapping, and executing people," pointed out an X user.

"What a totally moronic take after ICE just executed a man in the street cartel style. Your brain is a split pea floating in a bowl of soup," added another.

"This is the most childish Twitter-brained argument: if you oppose the government shooting people on the street then you're for lawlessness and open borders. Why does Megyn Kelly oppose the enforcement of murder laws?" wrote one.

Growing protests in Minnesota

The backlash highlights the growing public worry and criticism over ICE actions in the city and state. While people have been supporting the Trump administration's immigration agenda, the death of citizens in the midst of its execution has many outraged.

Before Pretti, ICE agents shot down another 37-year-old Minneapolis citizen Renee Nicole Good in her car. Additionally, reports of ICE agents detaining a 5-year-oldboy in Minnesota also heightened tension among protestors.

As for Kelly, she has previously also defended ICE in similar incidents. Following the murder of Nicole Good, she asserted that the mother of three 'deserved to be shot in the face' for allegedly trying to run over the ICE agent who killed her. The criticism against her comes from her disregard for the impact the violent interactions have on local communities and lives.
