Ahead of the team’s next event in the BLAST Premier 2021 Spring Finals, FaZe Clan is intending to use legendary lurker Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer Gustafsson in a more permanent capacity following Marcelo “coldzera” David’s decision to step down from the active roster.
Editor’s Note (2026): This article was originally published in Jun. 2021, ahead of the BLAST Premier 2021 Spring Finals. We’ve updated it to reflect FaZe Clan’s journey since the addition of Olofmeister, their inredible Major win, the numerous finals they made in early CS2 and the roster’s current standing in the competitive CS2 landscape.
When asked about a potential fifth today in an interview with Dot Esports, Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken confirmed that the CS:GO team will be using olofmeister “on a more permanent basis.” Olofmeister has been on and off the FaZe bench since April 2018, most recently contributing as a long-term stand-in starting in October 2020 following the departure of Nikola “NiKo” Kovač to G2 Esports. He’s been on FaZe’s bench since February when Twistzz joined from Team Liquid.
Regarding the two-time Major winner, both FaZe and Twistzz hold olofmeister in exceptionally high regard and the legendary player has already left a massive impression on the NA entry rifler.
“I think it’s the best situation we could come up with because we have one of the best lurkers in the game still willing to come off the bench,” Twistzz told Dot Esports. “He’s a very smart player and he does his role to perfection. We’re creating new things with him, and if it wasn’t permanent we wouldn’t be creating new things; we really believe in him. From my time playing with olof, without a doubt, he’s the smartest player I’ve ever played with.”
The return of olofmeister to FaZe’s starting roster will ideally bring some stability to a team in desperate need of it. The team has had a sluggish start to their 2021 campaign and the departure of coldzera leaves a void in the firepower department that will require the entire team to step up.
FaZe’s CS:GO roster for BLAST Premier 2021 Spring Finals, and the foreseeable future, will feature Finn “karrigan” Andersen, Helvijs “broky” Saukants, Håvard “rain” Nygaard, Twistzz, and olofmeister.
FaZe open the Spring Finals with a daunting matchup against Natus Vincere on June 16 at 8:30am CT.
What happened to FaZe after Olof’s signing in 2021
The olofmeister signing brought a much-needed breath of fresh air to a struggling FaZe roster in 2021. While it did little to overcome the firepower deficit the roster faced against the dominant team of the era, NAVI, the re-unification of the 2017 FaZe core (rain, karrigan, olofmeister) brought key intangibles to the roster, allowing it to win situations through sheer tenacity.
In particular, their triumph over Gambit in the quarterfinals of IEM Cologne 2021 proved that the veterans still had enough game knowledge and clutch factor to deny the youngsters of a top placement. But once LANs properly returned to the calendar, the lack of a third star truly caught up to the team, with many CS:GO viewers even asking for the olof-rain duo to be cut.
But that’s when karrigan finally got his missing piece. In January of 2022, Robin “ropz” Kool joined the roster moving away from MOUZ. The new lineup of karrigan, rain, broky, Twistzz, and ropz created one of the most exciting brands of Counter-Strike, combining the olof-lineup’s clutch ability with the sheer firepower of the three young stars.
While 2022 was easily their most successful year, with the team winning three of the four prestige events of the year, including the PGL Antwerp Major, the team continued to remain a threat in 2023 as well. Early in the year, they wrapped up their Intel Grand Slam run at ESL Pro League. And when the scene jumped to Counter-Strike 2, FaZe was there to capitalize, putting together a run of eight finals in a row.
As for olofmeister, the legendary Swede’s career wound down quietly. After being benched in January 2022, he transitioned to a streaming and content creation role with FaZe Clan by early 2023. The two-time Major champion, who had been named the best player in the world in 2015, chose to step away from the grueling demands of top-tier competition. In 2026, olofmeister was inducted into HLTV’s Hall of Fame, created in partnership with esports bookmaker 1xBet, cementing his legacy as one of Counter-Strike’s most innovative and dominant players across two different eras of the game.
Where is FaZe Clan in 2026
After the Copenhagen Major loss, FaZe struggled to maintain their elite form. Despite a finals run at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, ropz departed for Vitality at year’s end—a move that proved lucrative for the Estonian, who collected nine trophies in 2025 including both Majors.
Losing a second star on a free transfer left FaZe scrambling. They initially brought in Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski for his entry prowess, but clashing visions led to a swap deal with Liquid that brought Twistzz back to FaZe in late 2025. The reunion sparked hope, especially during their finals run at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, but that form quickly faded.
As of early 2026, FaZe sits ranked #7 in the world—a team that lives and dies on the Twistzz-frozen rifle duo but lacks the surrounding pieces to consistently challenge the elite tier. Much like the 2021 roster with olofmeister, even a single big roster move could unlock the incredible potential the team possesses, but whether that move will materialize, remains to be seen.
