A heartbroken twin has told how her identical sister died after discovering she had cancer when they were in a car crash together. Nicola Valbonesi and Kerry Horne both suffered severe whiplash when a vehicle slammed into theirs in August 2020.
But as Nicola started to recover, Kerry’s condition deteriorated and the mum-of-three was referred to hospital, where tests revealed the tumour that went on to claim her life aged just 35. Kerry had first been diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2018 but after several rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a lumpectomy, she was given the all-clear in February 2019.
Following the car crash, she developed extreme back pain and breathing difficulties, and a scan revealed her cancer had returned. Despite a brave attempt to fight the disease again, Kerry died in June last year, leaving devastated husband Alan to bring up daughter Orla and twins Emilia and Quinn.
