NEW DELHI: Avinash Sable created history, becoming the first Indian man to secure a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase event while shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor delivered a strong performance in the final round to successfully defend his title as India had a remarkable Day 8 at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sunday.
Avinash and Toor golds led the medal rush as India secured a total of 15 medals -- their biggest-ever haul in a single day of the Asian Games over all editions -- with athletics emerging as biggest contributor in the Sunday's power-packed performance.
