The death of twin babies is being treated as suspicious three years after their bodies were discovered in a bedroom.
The three-month-old boys who required special needs care were found unresponsive after emergency services were called to a far north Queensland unit on December 13, 2021.
They were unable to be revived in the Cairns unit's bedroom and were declared dead at the scene.
On the third anniversary of their deaths, police on Friday said new information had come to light.
"We now believe the deaths to be suspicious in nature," Detective Inspector Kevin Goan told reporters in Cairns on Friday.
Police said the boys' death had "long-lasting effects" on the community and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
"Three years later, this tragedy has not been forgotten by the friends and family of these three-month-old boys," Detective Sergeant Barry Karamujic said.
"Someone, somewhere, knows something and we are urging anyone who could assist us with this protracted investigation, to come forward now."
Police said autopsies have been conducted for the boys.
