A terrifying documentary about the Indian Ocean tsunami that happened after an earthquake and killed more than 230,000 people on Boxing Day 2004. Over two episodes, survivors relate the devastating events by sharing their stories: Frances had just married Keith on the beach when the wave hit, while pregnant Sri was running a hotel, and Shenth was on a train from Colombo. The spectacular beauty of Russia’s Lake Baikal or the Tibetan Plateau (here enhanced by Laurentia Editha’s rousing orchestral score) could easily obscure the brutal reality of life there. 1984: The Read With Sacha Dhawan

9pm, BBC Four

Unimpressed by Big Brother on ITV2? Check out the ominous original as the series that asks gifted actors to perform revered novels kicks off its third series with Orwell’s ever-timely tale of soul-crushing totalitarianism. Sacha Dhawan’s wary narration – channelling furtive shirker Winston Smith – is multilayered and moving. Graeme Virtue
