The Coronation, from 6am, BBC1, ITV1, Sky News & Sky Showcase
The Crown Jewels have been polished, the carriages are gleaming and all eyes are on Westminster Abbey as King Charles III and Queen Camilla prepare to be crowned. Kirsty Young is anchoring BBC1’s coverage of the day’s historic events, while Huw Edwards commentates on the sacred ceremony itself, which reflects both centuries of tradition and the new sovereign’s desire for a more modern and diverse monarchy.
Then, it’s back to Buckingham Palace in the spectacular Coronation Procession before Their Majesties make their way onto the famous balcony in front of the crowds gathered below to watch a fly-past.

Casualty, 8:30 pm, BBC One
Explosive storylines are a staple in Holbyland, but tonight that’s taken to a literal level when a cache of World War Two bombs are discovered on an unconscious patient. Dylan – who knows his wartime grenades, fair play to him – initiates a mass evacuation, while Jodie (Anna Chell) volunteers to hold on to the unstable device until bomb disposal expert Jed (Ciaran Kellgren) arrives. What follows is an understated two-hander rippling with tension… Outside, everyone is terrified, but Faith’s physically shaking – she’s run out of pills…

Charles: In His Own Words, 8 pm, National Geographic
Like a flipbook through His Majesty’s life, this clip fest uses rare archive, quotes from friends and Palace insiders plus interviews with King Charles III himself to ask whether he will still be a ‘rebel prince’ once he is crowned. From the official film of him as a babe in arms in 1948, the monarch’s life has been framed by the press, and it is interesting to be reminded of his first run-in with the media as a teen over a cherry brandy.
But as he states here, ‘I do realise that it’s a separate exercise being sovereign.’ This afternoon, there’s another chance to see the documentary Charles R: The Making of a Monarch on BBC1 (5.15pm, times vary).

Strictly Len Goodman, iPlayer
This documentary about the Strictly head judge, who died last month, aged 78, can be watched on iPlayer at any time, but we think a Saturday night is most apt. It first aired in 2016 when Len left the show, and looks back at the beginnings of Strictly and how Len came to be hired. The man who got his big break aged 60 turned out to be TV gold – warm and encouraging (but grumpy if a routine included ‘faffing about’), and he had a host of fantastic phrases. ‘I’m a cup of tea in a world of skinny lattes,’ he said, and that sums him up perfectly. To paraphrase the man himself: it’s a 10 for Len.

The family-friendly fantasy is back for a second series this week, with half-human hybrid Gus and his friends having to gather their strength to figure out what caused the Great Crumble, the chaotic era when 98% of the world’s population was killed off by a virus.
But as Gus begins a dark journey to find a cure for a new wave of the Sick, he also learns more about his own origins, as well as his mother Birdie’s role in the events leading up to the collapse of society. Christian Convery (recently seen in Cocaine Bear) returns as Gus, alongside Nonso Anozie and Adeel Akhtar. James Brolin acts as the narrator.
