The compelling true-crime drama concludes this week when suspicion falls on young churchwarden Ben Field (Éanna Hardwicke). Following the deaths of neighbours Peter Farquhar (Timothy Spall) and Ann Moore-Martin (Anne Reid), the police investigate when Ann’s niece Anne-Marie Blake (The Split’s Annabel Scholey) is convinced that Field was to blame. Searches for clues, including the meticulous study of former teacher Peter’s extensive diaries and flashbacks to what really happened on the night he was believed to have died from alcohol poisoning, all make for hard-hitting viewing as a chillingly calm Field is eventually tried in court for murder. Concludes tomorrow.

The Unique Boutique, 10 pm, Channel 4/Channel 4 (box set)
For those with disabilities or plus-size figures, finding clothes can be tough. This series sees designer Victoria, stylists David and Georgie and body confidence coach Natalie create outfits for those excluded from high-street fashion. In episode one, we meet Emma-Jane, who needs a glitzy dress to wear while competing in pageants. There’s also Lisa, who’s lost her fashion mojo since undergoing cancer treatment, and Huw, who needs a cool outfit to give him the confidence to date again.

There’s a beautiful story of bravery and resilience in tonight’s uplifting episode of Extraordinary Portraits. Junior doctor Grace Spence Green was a fourth-year medical school student when she was left paralysed after a man fell from the third floor of a shopping centre and landed on her. Incredibly, she feels no anger or bitterness about her situation and her positivity shines through as she has her life celebrated with a stunning colourful portrait painted by Jemisha Maadhavji. Be prepared for tears all round at the big reveal…

The Brokenwood Mysteries, 8 pm, UKTV Play (box set)
New Zealand’s answer to Midsomer Murders returns for a ninth series, giving popular crime solvers DSS Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea) and colleagues Detective Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland) and DC Daniel Chalmers (Jarod Rawiri) more juicy cases to get stuck into. Tonight’s first of six feature-length episodes has a theatre theme and sees audience members Shepherd and Sims witness a murder when the show’s composer meets a tragic (and dramatic) end onstage. With all the thesps soon under suspicion, expect revelations of ego clashes and backstage affairs, as well as bursts of song along the way!

The Bear season 2, Disney Plus
Jeremy Allen White won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of troubled yet brilliant chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto last year, and Disney Plus are serving up a second serving of the acclaimed drama. After saving their off-beat Chicago sandwich shop following his brother’s suicide, Carmy and his team are hoping to revamp and relaunch the restaurant this year, but soon find true excellence requires real sacrifice. Overflowing with stress-inducing drama, mouth-watering food, and some deeply tender moments, it’s a wonderfully shot examination of grief, friendship and hope that shows the first season was no flash in the pan.

Best film on TV tonight
The 1955 murder of Emmett Till sent shockwaves through American society that are still felt today, and Chinonye Chukwu’s emotionally weighty but respectful true-life drama is determined to make us look squarely at his brutal death and the injustices surrounding the case. Danielle Deadwyler earned plaudits including a BAFTA nomination as Mamie Till, the mother of the 14-year-old Black Chicago boy who was killed in Mississippi for allegedly wolf-whistling at a white woman. Till sensitively highlights its heroine’s bravery rather than the story’s atrocity, with Deadwyler bringing a quiet but intense power to Mamie and her crusade to bring the murderers to justice.
