TV star Julia Bradbury vows to make herself go outside every day after beating cancer

TV star Julia Bradbury has made it her resolution to go outdoors every day this year - whatever the weather.

The former Countryfile star, 52, is in remission from breast cancer after a mastectomy and wants to enjoy every possible second with nature.

Julia has been very health conscious since her diagnosis - even writing a book about the benefits of walking and morning light.

She said: “I want to get daylight on my face every morning come rain or shine. I made a resolution early in the year and I want to make sure I keep doing that during 2023.”

Julia, who was diagnosed with cancer in September 2021 and had surgery a month later, revealed she had also adopted a new approach to alcohol after abstaining during her recovery.

She added: “The last time I drank was on my birthday in July.

“That has stayed that way actually, and it’s quite a complicated thing to think about because more and more people are asking me about it.

“They say, ‘Are you sober now?’ And I think, God, am I? Am I sort of framing myself as somebody who wasn’t before, and all the implications? That word is quite impactful. Are you sober now? So, yes I am.”

With her health restored she has thrown herself back into work with renewed vigour, hosting Channel 5’s Winter on the Farm to cover Helen Skelton’s stint on Strictly.

Julia added: “Helen and I are really great mates, so I’m so incredibly proud of her and it’s brilliant news.”

But while she is an admirer of Helen’s dancing prowess she has no desire to hit the ballroom floor herself due to the stress it can put on the body.

She said: “One of my major things to take care of over the next few years is to keep my stress levels low, and Strictly doesn’t strike me as a low-stress activity. Even just the scoring alone would leave my stress levels through the roof.”

Julia also revealed she and long-term partner Grant Cunningham had not been immune to the cost-of-living crisis. She added: “Our food prices have gone up, and I’ve got three young children and they eat us out of a house and home at the best of times. We have noticed the squeeze on our weekly budget.”
