TV expert's zip trick that can make your clothes last much longer

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, many of us are trying to cut costs, and one way of doing this is to make your clothes last longer so you don't need to buy new ones.

ITV's Lorraine Kelly was joined by fashion expert Mark Heyes on her self-titled show on Tuesday, and he had some great tips on how to keep clothes looking their best after buying and wearing them.

Coming live from a launderette, Mark shared his best tricks to keep clothes looking brand new for longer. He said you should store your clothes correctly, adding: "When it comes to knitwear, you should fold rather than hang to avoid little hanger marks."

Mark continued: "Washing your clothes correctly will make them last longer. When it comes to jeans, I always wash them inside out", before sharing a trick for items with a zip.

Mark said: "If you've got anything with a zip on it, make sure it's completely done up, and hand wash your delicates". Washing garments with the zip fully closed will protect the teeth, so you can open and shut it easily.

It will also protect other items, as an open zip can snag other fabrics.

Mark also said he "swears by" electric air dryers for clothes, as they "cost hardly anything, and are better for your clothes and the environment".

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITVX
