TV Christmas specials: What to watch on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day

BBC, ITV and Channel 4 will show a large array of Christmas programmes over the next three days.

Standard television gets the boot for a few days over the holiday period to make way for some extra special festive show-stoppers. The Bake Off tent and Strictly ballroom welcome back a new cast of fresh faces to undertake a fun-filled version of their competitions whilst others opt for something else entirely.

Elsewhere soap operas are usually centred on drama which usually sees a main character killed off or a year-long plotline meet its climax.
