Legendary actor and love of my life Denzel Washington has revealed that us, as a society, have been robbed. I’m talking about his confession, his revelation, his tea spill, that Gladiator II cut out a scene where he shares a cheeky wet snog with another bloke.
For folks who’ve been living under colosseum sized rock, Gladiator II — the highly-anticpated sequel to the 2000’s Gladiator — has finally dropped in cinemas.
As Australia feasts its eyes on a sweaty Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal taking chunks out of each other in the Arena, stars of the movie have been doing the rounds in the media to promote the heck out of this action packed flick.
From behind-the-scenes gossip to Mescal’s short shorts, the cast is dishing it all up!
In a recent interview with Gayety, Washington, who plays Macrinus, revealed that his character shared a gay kiss on camera. However, it got cut because the big dogs behind the flick were “chicken”.
BEKERK, as Australian philospher Kim Craig once shouted.
“I actually kissed a man in the film but they took it out, they cut it, I think they got chicken,” Washington dished.
“I kissed a guy full on the lips and I guess they weren’t ready for that yet. I killed him about five minutes later. It’s ‘Gladiator.’ It’s the kiss of death.”
As someone who’s never set their eyes on the OG movie (sue me), when I think of Gladiator, I think of an hour of testosterone fuelled violence mixed with dialogue about more violence. So, a gay kiss in that setting would’ve brought a beautiful balance to that world.
Like, imagine, instead of fighting in the arena, we kissed, you know???
With this new found information, I am NOT entertained.
Gladiator II is out now in cinemas across Australia.
