'Turn Around and Don't Look': Amazon Accused of Letting Worker Die in Warehouse Amid 'Corporate Greed' Claims

Texas Senate candidate James Talarico's claim that Amazon left a dying worker unattended has drawn heavy criticism online after reports revealed CPR was performed and the death was ruled non-work-related (Credit: Yourusernamewillbepublic2, CC0, via Wikimedia Commons)

Turn around and don't look. Those chilling words have put the death of an Amazon warehouse worker back in the spotlight after Texas State Representative James Talarico accused the company of telling employees to return to work as a colleague lay dying. His fiery, sermon-style remarks have gone viral, prompting fierce debate over the emergency response inside the Oregon warehouse and whether Talarico's account was accurate.

The controversy centres on the April death of 46-year-old Amazon worker Jim Wetmore at the company's PDX9 fulfilment centre in Troutdale, Oregon. While Talarico described the incident as an example of 'corporate greed', reporting from the scene indicates that employees performed CPR and used a defibrillator after Wetmore collapsed.
