During the Texhibition sourcing fair in Istanbul, the Istanbul Garment Exporters Association (IHKIB) announced a collaboration with WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) to boost Turkish garment exports to the US. WRAP, a Virginia-based organization dedicated to promoting safe, compliant, and ethical production in the textile and apparel industry globally, has certified over 3,500 manufacturing companies worldwide.
The partnership between IHKIB and WRAP focuses on a pilot project designed to identify top Turkish apparel exporters to the US and encourage them to obtain WRAP certification. As part of the agreement, WRAP will offer free training, both in-person and virtually, to assist these companies in achieving certification.
WRAP's commitment to ethical practices aligns with IHKIB's goal of supporting Turkish exporters. By collaborating with WRAP, IHKIB aims to facilitate market access for its members and keep them informed about industry trends. This initiative seeks to enhance business ties between Turkey and the US, fostering mutual cooperation and creating new opportunities in both countries.
Commenting on the partnership, WRAP's president and CEO emphasized the organization's dedication to promoting responsible practices in the global textile and apparel sector. The collaboration with IHKIB allows WRAP to extend its impact and support Turkish exporters in adhering to ethical standards.
For IHKIB, whose members represent a significant portion of Turkish apparel exports, the partnership with WRAP is a strategic move to enhance competitiveness and sustainability. By guiding members towards excellence and facilitating access to the US market, IHKIB aims to drive growth in Turkish apparel exports.
