Tumblr has said it is “deeply sorry” to Halsey after it (blasphemously) failed to include her in a highlight reel celebrating its 19-year anniversary.
The microblogging platform shared the nostalgia trip of a reel last week, complete with plenty of hallmarks from Tumblr’s bygone golden era. Think: flower crowns, dimly lit bedrooms, Lorde snippets, and more than a few One Direction clips. Oh, what a time.
While those musicians were all spotted in the reel — as well as The Weeknd and Lana Del Rey — one person glaringly absent was Halsey, despite her debut album Badlands dropping smack-bang at the height of Tumblr’s neo-grunge aesthetic and featuring very prominently users’ blogs/masterpieces.
“I keep your lights on for years and this is the thanks I get?” Halsey wrote when resharing the reel on X.
In what I imagine it’s like when historians read ancient texts, Halsey’s playful shade prompted multiple Tumblr users to resurrect their Halsey-inspired moodboards in the replies section, reminding the platform of just how mutually conducive her work was to theirs.

The hullabaloo was loud enough to reach Tumblr’s desk, since they issued a Notes App apology to the singer earlier today. “Halsey, we are deeply sorry you were not included in our 19th birthday edit,” the platform wrote.
“You are and have forever been a pillar of our platform and yes, for lack of better words ‘keeping our lights on for years’.”
Tumblr went on to “promise this will never happen again” and pleaded with Halsey to “find it in your heart to forgive us”.
Going a step further, Tumblr then posted another reel filled solely with content from Halsey’s Tumblr era, complete with blue wigs, Badlands poster and even a peace-sign selfie. In other words, a time capsule transporting us back when Tumblr was for more than just porn.
It appears the playful feud between Halsey and Tumblr has subsided, marking the first time in internet lore that a Notes App apology has actually worked.
