TUI thanks NHS workers with extra £100 off holidays this summer in huge discount

NHS workers can bag themselves a sizeable discount off TUI holidays this summer.

The package holiday firm has decided to say thanks to everyone working in the NHS with an extra £100 off on top of any other savings available with their 'Holidays For Heroes' scheme.

The deal is available on the TUI website for new holiday bookings over £1,200 in value, with a £30 discount for trips costing less than that amount. To book, all you need is a valid NHS email address.

The blog NHS Discount Offers compiles many of the deals that are put on especially for workers in the national health service, some of which can help you cut the price of a trip away.

Currently Avanti West Coast is offering 20% off for all NHS employees, while Tripp has a 10% discount for suitcase, luggage and cabin bags.

Steve Bater, spokesperson at NHS Discount Offers, said: "Many people are now booking their last minute summer holidays so this is a great way for NHS staff to save with TUI.

"Cost of travel has increased for all of us and the TUI £100 discount has been one of the most popular travel discounts for NHS staff to take advantage of in the last year or so. Its been a great way for Health Care Workers to save on their summer holidays this year and trips planned for 2024".

"The cost of living crisis continues to affect us all and every little helps as we look to save money wherever we can. Most of us will want to get away at some point for a much need break, and these savings are appreciated."

If you fancy a trip away this summer but are yet to book anything and don't want to pay the Earth for a holiday, then checking which places have a good exchange rate is a good idea.

Earlier this year Cape Town in South Africa was named the best bargain location for holidaymakers looking to squeeze the most out of their money.

In recent months sterling has been gaining ground against the South African rand in and is now worth 15.7% more than last March. Holidaymakers visiting Cape Town can expect to receive nearly £68 more in rand on a £500 currency transaction.

To add to the sweet deal, there are plenty of bargains to be had in South Africa, according to a Post Office report.

Tourists can buy a three-course evening meal for two with wine, bottle of beer, glass of wine, can of coke, large bottle of water and a cup of coffee for £51 - 8% cheaper than last year.

Marmaris in Turkey is another great spot for bargain hunters, as the lira continues to tumble in value and is worth 19.2% less year-on-year against sterling, giving UK visitors an extra £80 in lira on a £500 transaction.

The same bundle of items now costs the equivalent of £57 in the Turkish resort.

One of the biggest falls in currency power has been seen in Egypt, where the collapse of the Egyptian pound means visitors to Red Sea resorts like Sharm el-Sheikh will get 53.4% more cash to spend – the equivalent of over £174 more on a £500 exchange into Egyptian currency compared with last March.

However, the price of items in the holiday hotspot means the eight item basket costs £73 on average, highlighting how currency exchange isn't the only thing to consider when opting for a budget break.
