Tui flight diverts to East Midlands as extreme weather leaves 'screaming' passengers 'in floods of tears'

Extreme weather conditions forced a Tui flight to divert to East Midlands Airport. The flight from Tenerife was due to land at Manchester Airport but as Storm Larissa battered the UK and created 'awful' turbulence for passengers onboard the jet, the "trainee pilot" was forced to re-route. Passengers claim fellow travellers were left 'screaming and crying' as the aircraft battled a snowstorm.

The flight from Tenerife was due to arrive at Manchester Airport at around 8pm on Thursday, March 9, but the pilot was forced to divert to East Midlands Airport instead due to the extreme weather conditions. As the plane was buffeted around due to the weather, one passenger told the Manchester Evening News he was "saying his prayers".

Passenger Gareth Salter said: "People were panicking, babies were screaming, women were crying. There were some young girls behind us in floods of tears. I was saying my prayers, to be honest. I didn't think I'd see my family again. It was just awful."
