After a half term of 'carnage' for travellers at Manchester Airport, holiday giant TUI has reassured long-suffering holidaymakers that the problems are finally beginning to ease, despite reports of two-hour waits at security this morning.
Frustrated passengers hoping to get away in the last week have faced queues, long waits for luggage, flight delays and even woke up to texts cancelling their trips before they set out.
But TUI says delays are abating at under-pressure travel hubs across the country, with more than 230,000 people travelling on holiday with the firm last week. They also apologised to customers caught in the chaos and reassured travellers planning trips later this summer that if they have any difficulty when it's time for them to jet off TUI will step in to help them, offering them food, accommodation and transfers when necessary.
A TUI spokesperson said: "We’re sorry to those of our customers who have had their holidays impacted by delays and cancellations from the UK recently.
"We are working closely with our airport partners to do everything we can to get customers away on holiday, with the majority of our flights now operating as normal. We’d like to provide reassurance that we will always ensure our customers make it home safely and none will be left stranded overseas.
"We will always communicate directly with impacted customers via text message or email. We’ll advise them of any changes and a new departure time, where required, as soon as possible. We’ll also provide accommodation, transfers, meals and refreshments as needed.
"We're doing everything we can to ensure customers can look forward to enjoying their upcoming holidays as planned.
Despite the ongoing issues, TUI is still offering discounts and deals for holidaymakers keen to get away to sunnier destinations, with discount codes available to save hundreds of pounds on last minute breaks and cruises later in the year, a £150 discount on selected holidays departing in June and July as well as bargain breaks for later in the summer available on the firm's site. Meanwhile, more cautious holidaymakers can already book discounted 2023 Walt Disney World Florida trips with a host of perks or summer breaks where kids go free for next year.
