TUI and Jet2 Leeds Bradford Airport rules on what to do if your flight gets cancelled

Flights have been cancelled across the country over the half term holiday, with hundreds more cancellations expected in the coming months.

Following the pandemic, the demand for air travel has returned and the travel industry is struggling to recruit and train new staff. In addition to staff shortages, there are runway works underway, airport handling delays and air traffic control restrictions.

TUI has announced it is cancelling 186 flights for June although it claims Leeds Bradford Airport will be 'business as usual'.

So it's important to know what actions you can take if your flight is either cancelled, delayed or if you're baggage has been lost, in these uncertain times. Below is a breakdown of what Yorkshire based airliner Jet2, which hasn't cancelled any flights, and TUI, which announced hundreds of cancellations, have said in their policies.

Jet2

Jet2 says on its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, it will refund all cancelled flights if they are unable to find a suitable alternative. This will be made to the original payment card.

When it comes to delayed or lost baggage, Jet2 has a number of policies. Aggrieved passengers will have to fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and can check the status of their lost baggage.

The airliner makes promises to deliver delayed bag to a hotel or home with help from a courier who can arrange a preferred delivery time. Staff will need a mobile number to contact.

If the baggage is not found after five days, Jet2 advises passengers to contact Central Baggage Services. Jet2 also leave email address LostBaggage@jet2.com to contact if you're not pleased with its service.

TUI

If a flight is cancelled by TUI or delayed by three hours, the airliner advised customers to "speak to staff at the check-in desk or boarding gate to see information that states what your rights are when it comes to things like compensation or assistance."

Lost or delayed baggage will require passengers to fill out a PIR and call the number on the form. The airport will have to be contacted for the first five days of baggage tracing.

If your bag has been missing for 6 or more days, TUI says to call its Baggage Services Department on 0333 577 0300.

TUI says if a passenger wishes to file a claim, passengers cannot claim from both a travel insurance provider and TUI, it has to be one or the other.
