TUI and Jet2 Leeds Bradford Airport rules for dropping your bags off early

Airports across the country are currently struggling with huge queues and long delays prompting a number of airlines and travel companies to introduce a new service to help combat the problem.

In Leeds, passengers reported "absolute carnage" over the weekend and shared photographs of a long line snaking around the airport in Yeadon. Airline bosses have already warned more chaos is expected over the summer months when over five million Brits are set to head abroad.

But with staff shortages as well as an increase in passengers since coronavirus restrictions have been lifted, airports are having a hard time coping. Holidaymakers have been urged to plan ahead and leave extra time for check-in and security but simultaneously not arrive too early to avoid putting a strain on earlier departures.

Some airlines have now decided to offer passengers the chance to drop off their luggage the day before their flights. The twilight check-in service aims to reduce queueing times and delays.

Holidaymakers can bring their luggage the evening before their flight to make the next day a little more stress-free. Here are the details for Manchester Airport as well as Leeds Bradford Airport.

Jet2

The free twilight check-in service is available between 3pm and 8pm the day before your morning flight at Manchester Airport as well as Leeds Bradford Airport.

The early check-in service is available seven days a week for flights departing before 12pm, at the following airports:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • East Midlands
  • Edinburgh
  • Leeds Bradford Airport
  • London Stansted
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle

You can check-in online 24 hours before your flight and drop off up to six bags from your party. You will need everyone's boarding passes and passports to do this.

TUI

Earlier this month, TUI also decided to make the service available to its customers. Holidaymakers flying before midday can check in their luggage between 2pm and 9pm the day before.

This service is available at the below airports:

  • Gatwick - available from the North terminal only
  • Manchester - available from Terminal 2
  • Birmingham

The travel company warned however that this service is not available for flights to the USA and only available for TUI flights with a TOM flight number.

Other airlines currently not offering early bag drop at Manchester Airport or LBA include:

  • Ryanair
  • Flybe
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • easyjet
  • Lufthansa
  • British Airways
