LORD BERTIE (1.55, Ffos Las) is fancied to get off the mark at the second time of asking for the formidable Tom Marquand and William Haggas combination on Tuesday.
The son of Wootton Bassett, who cost €500,000 to buy as a yearling, ran green under Marquand (below) when a promising third of 12 over seven furlongs at Newbury last month. He edged left and carried his head high before rallying well late on to finish just a length behind winner Chaldean.
With improvement assured and that experience behind him, the two-year-old can take the Tommy New Stags Head Carmarthen Maiden Stakes.
Another in-form pair, Andrew Balding and David Probert, can continue their good strike rate at the Welsh track with SENORITA (3.00, nb).
On her fifth run, the three-year-old filly produced a career best to easily land a five-runner handicap over course and distance eight days ago and record her first victory.
My selection led from start to finish, going clear inside the final furlong and winning by three and three-quarter lengths from Atomise, with Hurricane Helen a further two and a quarter lengths adrift. A 6lb penalty may not be enough to prevent her going in again and winning the K P Tyres Handicap.
