Shocking images inside Glasgow homeless hotel show blood splattered walls and dumped syringe
A hotel for the homeless has been branded "inhabitable" after shocking images from inside a room showed blood-splattered walls, broken plug sockets and a discarded syringe.
Pictures shared with the Daily Record were taken by a resident at the council-funded Rennie Mackintosh Hotel on Union Street, Glasgow. Blood appears spattered across walls inside one bedroom, while a discarded needle is pictured lying on a radiator.
‘Beautiful’ mum, 23, killed by train leaves behind nine-month-old daughter
Tributes have poured in for a ‘beautiful’ young mum who tragically died last week. Heartbroken family and friends have named Kiena Dawes as the woman who was hit by a train on Friday afternoon.
The 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services. Her brother Kynan Dawes said she “was in such a bad place in her head” and “took the decision to end what was an awful battle in her life”.
Kiena, who worked as a hairdresser, leaves her nine-month-old daughter Marnie Blu Dawes and Kynan has pledged to give up his job as a builder to take care of her. A GoFundMe page has been set up by Matthew Sanderson to support Kynan and Marnie and pay towards Kiena’s funeral costs.
Tourist shocked as Queen’s guard screams at her for touching horse’s reins
A member of the Queen’s guard has been filmed screaming at a female tourist who got too close to his horse. The footage has been uploaded to TikTok by user Ethan (@_phigs) who vowed not to return to London following the incident.
It shows the social media user’s step-mum moving towards the soldier who was mounted on top of a tall black horse outside Buckingham Palace after queuing up to pose for a picture. As the photo is being taken, she reaches over to hold the horse’s reins, causing the animal to become visibly unsettled.
Mum’s fury as nursery shortens child’s name ‘because it’s too hard to pronounce’
A furious mum has hit out after discovering her daughter’s nursery had shortened her name because it is ‘too hard to pronounce’. Mahinarangi Tautu had just started to attend the childcare centre in New Zealand when her Maori mum Paris was told that staff would call the then five-year-old “Rangi”.
They told the horrified parent they found Mahinarangi’s traditional Maori name, which means ‘moon in the sky’, too hard to pronounce. In a further twist Paris said cruel children laugh at her daughter’s traditional name and didn’t even bother to try and pronounce it.
New £400 energy bill rebate simplified to help more people understand how the discount works
New research from National Energy Action (NEA) suggests that one in three UK households could fall into fuel poverty if the latest estimates that the average gas and electricity bills could reach £3,245 per year become a reality. Experts at Cornwall Insight recently said bills could rise from a current record of £1,971, to £3,245 in October and may increase even further to £3,364 at the start of next year.
