Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel still isn’t talking timelines for Tua Tagovailoa’s eventual return, but he’s given no reason to believe that the quarterback won’t be back as soon as he’s eligible to return from the injured reserve.
“There’s been no negative. Everything’s been positive each and every day,” McDaniel said Friday.
“Tua’s done a great job of getting something out of a situation that is obviously not ideal. You don’t get to choose what you go through, but you get to choose how you handle things. He’s been unbelievably diligent, he’s been a leader while doing it.”
Tagovailoa has been out of action since suffering a concussion early in the second half of the Dolphins’ Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills. After landing on the injured reserve, Tagovailoa is required to miss at least four games before he can return to practice and playing in games. Miami’s Week 7 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday will be the fourth game for the Dolphins without Tagovailoa.
But with Tagovailoa potentially just days away from being back in the fold and possibly even playing next week against the Arizona Cardinals, McDaniel isn’t ready to think any further ahead than Sunday.
“You’d be right in that I am focused on the Indianapolis Colts who play in 48 hours,” McDaniel said.
In the meantime, the Dolphins are relying on Tyler Huntley to lead the way for the team. The former Baltimore Ravens quarterback has completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 290 yards with no touchdowns and an interception in two starts. He’s also added 47 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
