Tua Tagovailoa Cleared To Play Against Arizona Cardinals

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol and is set to make his return to the field against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. This marks his first start since sustaining a concussion in Week 2 of the season.

Tagovailoa had been on injured reserve for about a month following the concussion he suffered on September 12, which was the third known concussion of his NFL career. The team designated him to return to practice on Monday after he underwent evaluations by multiple medical experts who deemed it safe for him to resume playing.

He successfully completed the NFL's five-step return-to-play process, which included participating in practices and contact drills without experiencing any concussion symptoms. An independent neurological consultant cleared Tagovailoa to play after examining him following Thursday's practice, as confirmed by coach Mike McDaniel.

Tagovailoa's concussion occurred during a game against the Buffalo Bills when he collided with a defensive back while attempting to run for a first down. Despite his history of head injuries in the NFL, including two concussions in 2022, Tagovailoa has received medical clearance to continue playing after consulting with doctors and his family.

While some players opt for additional protective gear such as the Guardian Cap, Tagovailoa has chosen not to use it, citing it as a personal decision. He already wears a quarterback-specific helmet designed to reduce head injuries.

With quarterback Tyler Huntley being placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury, Tagovailoa's return to the starting lineup is eagerly anticipated by the Dolphins. The team also made roster moves by signing receiver Dee Eskridge to the active roster and defensive tackle Matt Dickerson to the practice squad.

Defensive tackle Zach Sieler will miss the upcoming game against the Cardinals after sustaining an eye injury in practice, while safety Jevon Holland is expected to return to action following a hand injury that sidelined him last week.

Tagovailoa's comeback is a significant development for the Dolphins as they prepare to face the Cardinals in what promises to be an exciting matchup on Sunday.
