Truth behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 'awkward exchange' at Trooping the Colour

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations will kick off tomorrow with the spectacular Trooping the Colour.

It will see over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 40 musicians will move down the Mall from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guard’s Parade.

And as always, it will conclude with the traditional RAF fly-past, which will be watched from the balcony of Buckingham Palace by hopefully the Queen and her family.

The last time the royals congregated on the balcony for Trooping the Colour was in 2019 when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were among those making an appearance.

And eagle-eyed fans thought they spotted a slightly awkward moment between the couple as they waved to the crowds, with many believing they saw Harry telling Meghan off.

Footage shared on Twitter showed Harry looking inside the room next to the balcony before saying a few words to someone off-camera.

Meghan turns her head slightly and mouths something, then faces her husband.

The couple share a few words and Meghan faces forward. She then turns around once more to face Harry - and it's at this point it looks like he instructs her to "turn around" - which she then does.

Harry keeps up his stern facial expression while Meghan awkwardly tries to compose herself in front of the camera - which caused fans to speculate they may have had cross words.

However, when you listen to the full clip with sound, you quickly realise there is more to the story.

The footage shows with sound shows it's just a second or so before the National Anthem starts playing.

This means there's a good chance that Harry was actually just giving Meghan a heads up that the music was about to start playing so she wasn't caught out looking the wrong way.

Instead of standing awkwardly they are actually just listening to the opening part of God Save the Queen.

Tomorrow, the Queen is expected to make a balcony appearance although there will be no place for Harry and Meghan.

That's because balcony appearances are limited to working royals only with a few notable exceptions.

Joining the Queen on the balcony for Trooping will be Prince Charles, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra, and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

Also set to appear for the historic occasion will be Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis and the Wessexes’ children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn.
