An Australian teenager who fatally stabbed a British woman during a home invasion has had his reduced prison sentence overturned by the country’s highest court, restoring the original term imposed over the murder that shocked Queensland.
The High Court of Australia unanimously ruled on Wednesday that the Queensland court of appeal should not have reduced the amount of time the offender was required to spend in detention before release, finding it was “not open” for the lower court to interfere with the original sentencing judge’s decision.
