Truth behind Harry Kane illness after Gary Lineker sparks Tottenham fans' worries

Harry Kane is feeling unwell ahead of Tottenham’s final game of the season - but Spurs are denying there is a food poisoning outbreak at the club.

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker sparked a huge reaction on social media after tweeting: “Hearing there’s a food poisoning outbreak at @SpursOfficial. No, i am not joking.” That revived memories of 2006 when Tottenham blew a Champions League place after the infamous “lasagne-gate” which left members of the squad ill, they lost at West Ham and Arsenal nicked fourth.

Tottenham are in pole position ahead of this weekend, they only need a point at Norwich who are already doomed but defeat could let Arsenal back into the Champions League places. Lineker was due to interview Kane at the Museum of London exhibition which is honouring the England captain and Spurs striker.

But Kane has had to pull out of the engagement because he was feeling unwell on Friday. But Tottenham boss Antonio Conte insisted he thinks Kane will be fit to face Norwich who are relegated already and are big outsiders to win.

When asked whether Kane will be fit for Sunday, Conte said: “Yeah for sure. If you remember the last game against Burnley we had four cases with stomach problems. This week I have to be honest we had a couple of cases about this, but we overcame this situation.

“Also members of the staff for one day they were not feeling so good. I don't know why but the last week and also this week we faced this situation. In this moment honestly this virus is the last of our problems because we are very close to reach a big achievement for the club, for our fans, for the players.”

Conte also laughed off a repeat of “lasagne gate” when Spurs blamed a pre-match meal the night before in a hotel, although health checks later cleared the hotel of wrong doing.

Conte added: “I don't want to know this story. It’s not a lucky story. I’m not interested to know! To go deep in this story.”

Tottenham’s famous lasagne gate happened after they stayed in a London hotel 16 years ago. They had a pre match meal the night before, players fell ill and then Tottenham asked the Premier League to postpone the game because of the outbreak. The Premier League refused and the hotel have always denied any wrongdoing but the whole incident is the stuff of Arsenal legend.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will need another miracle as they face Everton at the Emirates on Sunday, and after their successive defeats at Tottenham and to Newcastle, they will have to win and hope Spurs slip up.
