Trump's 'Remigration' Drive Sends Migrants to Countries They Never Lived In, Inspired by Europe's Far Right

Migrants removed from the US under Donald Trump are increasingly being sent to countries they have never lived in, with no family or social ties, rather than returned to their homelands. Liberia is the latest destination, receiving 20 US deportees on 20 August under an agreement that could eventually involve up to 1,200 people.

The Liberia transfer highlights how third-country deportation is becoming a more established element of Trump's immigration policy. Associated Press reporting says thousands of people have been sent to states other than their own, with some having no connections to the places that receive them.
