Donald Trump has promised that every adult US citizen will receive £3,690 ($5,000) if Republicans win both houses of Congress next month, and warned that a Democratic victory would bring an economic depression 'much like 1929'.
The president repeated the pledge in a video posted on Saturday 3 October 2026, exactly a month before the midterm elections. It is the latest of several cash-payment proposals he has made since returning to office; two earlier dividend proposals were never implemented, while a separate payment to service members was delivered.
