A prominent Trump donor claims Kimberly Guilfoyle urgently asked him to pay $100,000 towards her American Express bill days before her ambassador confirmation hearing, only for him to refuse because he feared the payment could wreck his marriage.

Eric Deters, a former Republican congressional candidate and longtime Donald Trump supporter, told The Wall Street Journal that Guilfoyle approached him on 3 July 2025 while preparing for her Senate hearing to become US ambassador to Greece. Messages reviewed by the newspaper reportedly show Guilfoyle sending Deters instructions for wiring money directly to an American Express account.
