The Trump administration said on Sept. 10 that it will send $500 rebate checks to an estimated 1 million Affordable Care Act enrollees in 30 states, but the money is limited to people who do not receive federal premium assistance. A White House fact sheet said the payments would begin going out in October, the Associated Press reported.
For most marketplace households, the announcement changes little. The payment is a one-time check, not a reduction in monthly premiums. The vast majority of ACA enrollees receive subsidies and do not qualify, and people in states that run their own marketplaces are excluded.
