President Donald Trump has made an extraordinary election-year pledge: every adult U.S. citizen would receive $5,000 if Republicans retain control of both the House of Representatives and Senate in the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump announced the proposal Wednesday at the Republican Party's first midterm convention in Dallas, describing the payment as a “dividend” and directly tying it to a Republican victory in November.
