Trump writes to Bangladesh's new PM Tarique; seeks 'decisive action' on defence front

Dhaka: In his first letter to Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman, US President Donald Trump has pushed for making US-Bangladesh ties "stronger than ever before" through "decisive action" to complete routine defence agreements and implementation of the reciprocal trade agreement. "I hope you will take decisive action to complete the routine defence agreements that would give your military access to high-end, American-made equipment - the best in the world," Trump said.

Trump said, "As you begin your term, I hope you will help me maintain the tremendous momentum in our trade relationship through the implementation of our Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which benefits farmers and workers in both of our countries."

The president said his ambassador to Bangladesh - Brent Christensen - has his full confidence.
