Transportation Security Administration officers are currently pushing back against a new policy that removes chairs from the travel document checker stations at airports, Unilad reports. This shift in policy means that agents are now required to remain on their feet while they handle the vital task of verifying passports and travel documents for the public.
The decision to remove these seats has caused significant frustration among the workforce. The American Federation of Government Employees TSA Council 100, which represents these officers, has publicly criticized the move. They characterized the directive as a ‘disregard for workers rights and safety.’ According to the union, they were not consulted on the change and only learned about the removal of the chairs through their own members.
