US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could take military action to secure and reinforce its presence at Diego Garcia if any future arrangement threatens access to the strategically vital joint US-UK military base, following the United Kingdom’s treaty with Mauritius over sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago.
In a post on Truth Social on Thursday (local time), Trump said he had held “very productive discussions” with British prime minister Keir Starmer on the future of Diego Garcia, which hosts one of the most important US military installations in the Indian Ocean.
