President Donald Trump suggested renaming New Mexico to New America in a Truth Social post over the holiday weekend.
The move follows previous executive orders by Trump that renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario to Lake America.
While Apple and Google updated their mapping apps to reflect Trump's changes for US users, MapQuest refused to comply and experienced a surge in downloads.
Trump's geographic rebranding efforts have drawn criticism from groups like Republicans Against Trump, even as he posted a separate image claiming US ownership of the moon.
A recent poll revealed that 73 percent of Americans feel Trump has not paid enough attention to the nation's most critical problems.
