Donald Trump has launched an expletive-filled warning at Iran, demanding it reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe consequences.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, the US president wrote: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran.
“There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F*****’ Strait, you crazy b******s, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The outburst came as Iran continued to show no sign of backing down, carrying out strikes on oil fields and key infrastructure targets across neighbouring Gulf states.
It also followed a dramatic US military operation to recover an airman stranded behind enemy lines after his F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down.
The serviceman had spent more than 24 hours hiding in mountainous terrain with only a pistol, as Iranian forces and local villagers scoured the area after Tehran offered a reward for the ‘enemy pilot’.
After the rescue on Sunday, Trump confirmed the airman had been injured but was in a stable condition.
“This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour,” he wrote.
The Strait of Hormuz, at the centre of Trump’s warning, is one of the world’s most critical oil chokepoints.
The narrow shipping lane connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, and is used to transport a significant share of the world’s oil supply.
Roughly a fifth of global oil consumption passes through the strait each day, making it a vital artery for international energy markets.
The recent disruption through Hormuz has sent shockwaves through global prices and supply chains.
