Trump's plan for 550 new homes in Aberdeenshire given permission

Aberdeenshire Council has granted permission in principle to Trump International to build 550 homes close to its Aberdeenshire golf course, after a deal was struck to contribute towards affordable homes in the area.

The project would involve community facilities being built and up to 500 of the 550 being sold as private houses.

The council noted that the development of further private housing on the site as permanent residential units would not comply with its Local Development Plan policies regarding residential development in this area.

It made the decision following the conclusion of discussions around a Section 75 legal agreement.

The council added that the golf villas and leisure resort units will only be occupied on a holiday letting or fractional ownership basis and cannot be used as a permanent residential units without further planning permission.

“The golf villas and leisure and resort units shall not be occupied as a person's sole or main serving Aberdeenshire from mountain to sea – the very best of Scotland residence.”

A council spokesperson said: "Aberdeenshire Council agreed to delegate authority to approve planning permission in principle to the planning service in September 2019 - various conditions require to be met before any phase of development could begin on site.

“Should development proceed, the legal agreement secures financial contributions towards affordable housing, a community hall, healthcare, primary education, waste and recycling, and sports and recreation.”
