Trump's Lawyers Use Biden's Pardon Of Hunter To Dismiss Conviction

President-elect Donald Trump's defense lawyers are leveraging President Joe Biden's recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, to push for the dismissal of Trump's conviction in his Manhattan hush money case. In a motion filed on Monday, Trump's lawyers highlighted Biden's pardon of Hunter Biden, which covered all potential crimes, charged or uncharged, for a period of 10 years. They pointed to Biden's assertion that his son was unfairly prosecuted and treated differently, suggesting that this reflected negatively on Biden's own Justice Department.

The lawyers, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who have been selected for top Justice Department positions in Trump's upcoming administration, argued that these remarks by Biden amounted to a condemnation of his own Justice Department. They further contended that the New York District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, had engaged in political theater similar to what Biden criticized.

Earlier this year, Bragg's office successfully prosecuted Trump for falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016. Following Trump's reelection, Judge Juan Merchan indefinitely postponed Trump's sentencing in the case. Trump's legal team is now seeking to have the conviction dismissed, citing Biden's actions and statements.

However, the District Attorney's office has made it clear that they will oppose any attempts to have the case thrown out. The legal battle between Trump's defense team and the prosecution continues as they navigate the complexities of the legal system and the implications of presidential pardons.
