US voters turned out to the polls on Tuesday in the first election since Donald Trump began his second presidential term. Key results to watch include New York’s mayoral race and New Jersey’s gubernatorial race. (Democrat Abigail Spanberger has already won the Virginia governor’s race.) California’s Prop 50 could prove decisive in the national redistricting fight ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Election day comes as the government shutdown dragged into its 35th day, with another failed Senate funding vote and threats of closing parts of US airspace.
