Trump Leads Biden In Post-Debate Polls

U.S. President Donald Trump, left, and Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden attend the second and final presidential debate Oct. 22, 2020, at Belmont University in Nashvi

A recent Poll of Polls on the presidential race conducted entirely after Thursday's debate reveals that former President Donald Trump is currently leading President Joe Biden by a margin of 49% to 44%. This marks the first time this year that the candidates have been separated by more than three points in a Poll of Polls.

The Poll of Polls average includes data from four surveys conducted post-debate. These surveys include a poll showing Trump at 49% and Biden at 43% among registered voters, a CBS/YouGov poll with Trump at 50% and Biden at 48% among likely voters, a New York Times/Siena College poll with Trump at 49% and Biden at 41% among registered voters, and a Wall Street Journal poll with Trump at 48% and Biden at 42% among registered voters.

Prior to the debate, the Poll of Polls had Trump at 49% and Biden at 47%. However, polling data has consistently shown Trump leading by a margin since last fall. The CBS/YouGov and New York Times/Siena polls conducted both pre- and post-debate indicated a relatively stable race, with a slight uptick in Trump's margin within the margin of error. The Wall Street Journal poll, which had not been conducted since February, also showed a shift towards Trump over the broader time period.
